Spurs clear Victor Wembanyama for second night of back-to-back

San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama (1) reacts after making a three-pointer against the Brooklyn Nets in the fourth quarter at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025. The Spurs defeated the Nets, 118-107 in the first home game of the season.
Despite admitting to battling some fatigue in Sunday’s 118-107 win over Brooklyn, Victor Wembanyama was cleared by the Spurs to play in the back-to-back finale against Toronto on Monday night.
Wembanyama logged 36 minutes against the Nets, finishing with 31 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, four assists and three steals. In leading the Spurs to a 3-0 start, he’s averaged 32.7 minutes per game, second on the team to Devin Vassell’s 35.3 average.
Wembanyama’s heavy workload comes after he missed the final two months of last season while sidelined with a blood clot in his right shoulder.
“It’s true that I was tired,” Wembanyama said in French after Sunday’s game in a response to a question from L’Equipe’s Maxime Aubin about whether “fatigue was starting to set in” against the Brooklyn.
Sunday’s outing was the Spurs’ third in five days after they played at Dallas in the season opener last Wednesday and at New Orleans on Friday.
“The trip after New Orleans took longer than expected,” Wembanyama added. “I didn’t sleep super well. But under the same conditions, I feel so much better than a year or two ago. There’s no comparison, so I’m not worried about tomorrow’s back to back.”
In other injury news, the Spurs were again without De’Aaron Fox (hamstring), Kelly Olynyk (heel), Jeremy Sochan (wrist) and Lindy Waters III (eye), all of whom have yet to make their regular season debuts.
Wembanyama’s backup, Luke Kornet, missed his second straight game with an injured ankle.
