Flagler, Umude and Potter were on Exhibit 10 contracts, also known as training camp deals, so it’s not a surprise they are gone now that the Spurs’ preseason is over and opening night is close. Teams can carry up to 21 players in the offseason, but have to trim down their roster to a maximum of 18 players (15 standard contracts and three two-way deals) before the beginning of the season. With these moves, San Antonio has done just that.
All three of the players who were waived were considered long shots to make it to the opening night roster, and didn’t do much during preseason to change that perception. Flagler was the most impressive of the three, showing the ability to shoot and create as a guard, but the 25-year-old didn’t outplay his competition. Potter, 27, and Umude, 26, had quieter performances. All three will likely land with the Austin Spurs, where they will have the opportunity to continue their development in hopes of earning a spot in the NBA.
The roster for opening night now seems set, unless something unexpected happens. Bismack Biyombo, who was on a non-guaranteed deal, is safe, according to HoopsHype Michael Scotto. Lindy Waters III, who only had a $500,000 guarantee on his minimum contract, did enough in preseason to remain in tow as a bench shooter. Both Biyombo’s and Water’s contracts become fully guaranteed on Jan. 10, 2026. David Jones-Garcia, Riley Minix, and Harrison Ingram are currently the three players on two-way deals.
