It’s been a quarter century since the San Antonio Spurs won their inaugural 1999 NBA Championship. For the better part of two decades, legions of fans knew winning seasons, continuous playoff runs, and seemingly never-ending success.
These days the Spurs are building back in hopes of reaching that same level od success and accolade, but without cornerstone Tim Duncan.
Duncan may be the only member of the Spurs to be present in all five successful title runs, but he did not do it alone.
This weekend, the 1999 Spurs team was inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place Saturday evening at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
In addition to Tim Duncan, this championship validated David Robinson, whose selfless dedication to the city, the team, and the transition of power to Duncan elevated the team to make the historic run.
Legends Sean Elliott and Avery Johnson were also a part of that title team, including Mario Elie, Jaron Jackson, Antonio Daniels, Jerome Kersey, Will Perdue, Steve Kerr, Malik Rose, Gerard King, Brandon Williams and Andrew Gaze.
