Welcome to the thread. During the month of June, we have been talking NBA Draft. As we lead up to tomorrow’s 2025 NBA Draft, we have been revisiting the Spurs draft choices. Today we remember the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Spurs chose Stephon Castle with the 4th pick in the draft. Castle had just come off winning the NCAA Division I Men’s title with the UConn Huskies. He continued his stellar play with the Silver & Black, earning himself the 2024 Rookie of the Year honors, the first member of the Spurs to earn the honors without being the top pick of the draft. He joined Victor Wembanyama Tim Duncan. and David Robinson as the only players in franc wise history to garner the accolade.

As trade hype has progressed this summer, Castle name appears as a desired trade asset. The Spurs have shown no signs thus far of parting with what most consider to be an essential component to the Spurs future.
The Spurs also drafted Rob Dillingham with the 8th pick of the draft. This draft pick came as part of a package from the Toronto Raptors in 2023 along with Khem Birch (who was waived), the 2023 second round pick that conveyed into the drafting of Sidy Cissoko, and a 2025 second round pick in exchange for Jakob Poeltl.
Dillingham was traded on draft night to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a 2030 first round pick swap and their 2031 first round draft pick. Sidy Cissoko and Minnesota’s 2031 first round pick were bundled with Zach Collins, Tre Jones, and four other draft picks in the three-team trade that brought De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin to the San Antonio Spurs.
In the second round, the Spurs drafted Johnny Furphy with the 35th overall pick. He was traded on draft night for Juan Núñez, the 36th overall pick, and cash. Núñez spent the 2024-2025 season with FC Barcelona. He has some teammates with past ties to the Spurs — Tomáš Satoranský, Willy Hernangómez, and Nicolas Laprovittola were all on the roster this season. Unfortunately, Nunez suffered a right knee injury requiring surgery last March and was estimated to be out for six months.
Last but not least, the Spurs picked up Harrison Ingram with the 48th pick in the draft. This pick was acquired in 2022 from the Memphis Grizzles in exchange for Kennedy Chandler, a 2022 second round pick originally obtained from Chicago when the Spurs sent DeMar DeRozan to the Bulls through a sign-and-trade. There is a much longer backstory on that trade that will be discussed later this week.
And that just about gets up to speed.
Tomorrow, the Spurs have the 2nd overall pick in the draft and are expected to choose Dylan Harper. They also have the 14th pick in the draft (via the Atlanta Hawks), and your guess is as good as mine as to how that will shake out. Any predictions?
Either way, tomorrow opens yet another door toward the promise of the future for the San Antonio Spurs and how PATFO will continue to build around Victor Wembanyama.
