作为马刺队最好的射手之一,如果他们想要在 arguably the biggest win of the season against the Denver Nuggets.

Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs

After Saturday’s game was postponed due to wildfires, Monday’s game is set to happen.

Riding a 3-game losing streak and back under the .500 mark, the still-ascending San Antonio Spurs come into what should have been a back-to-back set against the Los Angeles Lakers in need of some momentum. At 20-16 the Lakers have by no means been otherworldly and are on nobody’s short list to win the title this year, but they still have two guys in LeBron James and Anthony Davis who are more than capable of winning any game on any given night. Los Angeles also looks a little different compared to when the Spurs played them in November (both losses), having recently moved off of much-maligned guard D’Angelo Russell.

Tonight’s game comes at a time of extreme uncertainty, as Los Angeles deals with the horrific wildfires that have engulfed the area over the last several days. This was supposed to be the second game of a miniseries between the two clubs, but Saturday’s game was postponed. In the spirit of head coach Gregg Popovich, this unfortunate situation is yet another reminder in a life full of them that there are things in life much bigger than basketball. Still, there’s a lot of joy that the game can still bring to people, even during dark times.

San Antonio Spurs (18-19) at Los Angeles Lakers (20-16)

January 13, 2025 | 9:30 PM CT

Watch: FanDuel Sports, NBA TV| Listen: WOAI (1200 AM)

Spurs Injuries: Jeremy Sochan, back (day to day)

Lakers Injuries: LeBron James, foot (probable), Jalen Hood-Schifino, hamstrung (OUT), Cam Reddish, back (questionable), Christian Wood, knee (OUT), Jarred Vanderbilt, foot (OUT)

What to watch for

  • Victor Wembanyama struggled mightily in the loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. He took just 10 shots in 33 minutes while being hounded most of the night by Giannis Antetokoumpo and didn’t get to the free throw line at all. Wembanyama could have much more success on the perimeter tonight against Anthony Davis than he did in Milwaukee. Davis is a perennial DPOY candidate, but he plays much differently than Antetokoumpo does on that end of the floor.
  • Austin Reaves has scored 20 or more in 6 of his last 10 games, including a career-high 35 point outing in the Lakers’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 4th year guard is Los Angeles’ de facto third banana and he plays his role well. That includes taking his open looks off of penetration by James and Davis, cutting hard and often, and even putting the ball on the floor and attacking the paint if he has to. He’s also more than capable of bringing the ball up the court and is the kind of player that can bring a team back from a deficit in a hurry if he gets going.
  • Devin Vassell continues to be in the mother of all slumps. He’s shooting 37% from the field and just 22% from beyond the arc and is averaging just under 14 points in his last 10 games. One of their best shooters, San Antonio desperately needs him to start knocking down his shots if they want to slow this 3-game skid after what was arguably the biggest win of the season against the Denver Nuggets. One thing to consider: Vassell spent the summer rehabbing after getting surgery on his foot and didn’t make his debut until November 9th. That means no training camp and likely very little heavy conditioning work coming into the season. Maybe the legs are an issue?
  • The Lakers haven’t played since Tuesday night, a road loss to a very depleted Dallas Mavericks team, a loss that some would say was embarrassing given the talent level of Davis and the now 40-years-old-but-still-spectacular Lebron James. While the wildfire situation is the main issue on everybody’s mind, from a basketball perspective the Lakers are looking to get back on track just like San Antonio is.
