PtR Survey: Final Results of the best (and worst) of the Spurs
The most athletic, best roll player, and best signature move
Welcome back to the PtR Survey, where we are following an online trend where fans are voting on players from their team to fill out a grid like the one below. For our final round, we did the most athletic Spur, best role player and best signature move, and these were the results:
Finally making his first and only appearance is the Admiral himself, David Robinson, as the Most Athletic Spur of all time, and there was little doubt about it as he got 79% of the vote. Some people may associate athleticism with just speed, but the Admiral was a specimen like few had ever seen. He was extremely agile for his size and could fly for a dunk like a wing.
The other two topics were much tighter. The vote for Best Role Player was very spread out, with four players receiving a double-digit percentage of votes. Still, Bruce Bowen made a somewhat surprising second appearance on the board with 35% of the vote, 15% more than runner-up Sean Elliott. The definition of a roll player is to have one roll and do it very well, and Bowen did just that as the defender of the opponent’s best shooter on one end and corner three-point shooter on the other.
Finally, best signature move was our second-closest result, with George Gervin and his finger roll just barely inching out Manu Ginobili’s Euro step by 19 votes at the time this article was posted. It’s quite the tribute to the Iceman to win what is essentially a popularity vote over the most beloved Spur of all time.
And that is the end of our project! What do you think of the final results? Are there any surprises that stand out? Perhaps my biggest surprise was I thought Stephen Jackson would win Most Annoying, and frankly Kawhi Leonard was a last-second entry, but it just goes to show that sometimes silence is more annoyingly golden than just being a loudmouth that everyone has learned to ignore.
My other big surprise was how dominantly Tim Duncan won best post player. Him winning wasn’t the surprising part, but I truly didn’t expect him to get over 500 more votes than Robinson. That result kind of blew me away.
I appreciate everyone’s participation, and exceeding 800 votes every time is more than I was expecting! I try to come up with a series to pass the time in the offseason every summer, and while I didn’t initially have any ideas, this online trend of filling out a grid like this provided the inspiration (even if I changed up some of the topics). Continue to stick around for more offseason fun, like our ongoing Snake Draft, and believe it or not, training camp is just around the corner, beginning on September 27!
