Spurs fans could have a new platform to watch games on this season with Amazon and Diamond Sports Group (DSG) – the company that operates regional Bally Sports channels – nearing a broadcast agreement.

The New York Post’s Jack Kosman last week reported Amazon and DSG are in "late-stage talks for a contract to livestream on Amazon Prime this coming season all the Bally Sports broadcasts of 12 NBA franchises.” Bally Sports Southwest aired 61 of the Spurs’ regular-season games and one preseason game during the 2023-24 campaign – KENS 5 (11 games) and CW35 (four) broadcast the remainder of the team’s local games. Subscribers to the Bally Sports+ were also able to stream games that aired on its cable channel.

According to the Post, if Amazon’s deal with DSG goes through prior to the 2024-25 season, Prime subscribers would have an option to pay an additional $20 per month for access to their home team’s local games. A cable subscription would no longer be required, though Bally would still broadcast games to its regional stations.

Amazon and DSG have been in negotiations since at least January, when the former agreed to invest around $115 million in the latter about one year after it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The multinational tech giant owned by Jeff Bezos decided to withdraw that offer last month, according to multiple reports.

Though Amazon pulled out of that original agreement, Bezos appears intent on amassing as much NBA content as possible. In a joint announcement in July, Amazon and the NBA confirmed they had come to terms on a multibillion-dollar 11-year media rights agreement that will begin with the 2025-26 season.

Amazon will reportedly pay the NBA $1.8 billion per season in exchange for the exclusive streaming rights to 66 nationally televised regular-season games, the knockout rounds of the in-season Emirates NBA Cup and every game of the postseason Play-In Tournament.
