Six years ago today a domino effect of trades set in motion that is still actively impacting the Spurs future
George Hill was drafted on June 26, 2008 in the 26th spot by the Spurs. He spent his first three NBA seasons in San Antonio.
Pop professed Hill was one of his favorite players of all time.
And then Pop and the front office traded him to the Indiana Pacers.
For whom? Well, we all know.

2011
Techincally, Hill was traded for Leonard (the 15th pick), Dāvis Bertāns (the 42nd pick), and 2005 draftee Erazem Lorbek. Lorbek joined the Spurs’ 2016 NBA Summer League roster, but never played in the NBA during his career.
Leonard played with the Spurs from 2011-2018. During his time, the Spurs won their 5th NBA title, of which Leonard was the Finals MVP. He also earned back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year honors and attended his first two NBA All-Star Games.
2018
July 18 (six years to today), Leonard and Danny Green were traded to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and the protected 2019 first-round draft pick that became Keldon Johnson.
