Brazil beat Venezuela 92-50 on Saturday in the first match of the Super Four basketball tournament in Brasilia.
Although Brazil breezed to an easy win, star forward Tiago Splitter was injured, worrying head coach Ruben Magnano.
Recently signed by the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, Splitter left the game in the third quarter, complaining of pain in his left thigh. Team doctors believed the player has a minor muscle contusion.
Splitter will undergo an MRI in order to check the degree of the injury.
In regard to the team’s performance, Magnano said he was happy, but that the team has many things yet to improve. He described the win as a good start to the team’s upcoming schedule that includes the 2010 World Championship in Turkey.
The Brazilians return to the court on Sunday when they host Angola, who beat Chile on Saturday 80-59.
