It’s a strange case because the decline is obvious but I can’t tell why it’s happening. He’s slow but he’s always been slow, he’s still the “in the right place at the right time” player he always was, the vibes seem to be good, yet we’re terrible when he’s on the floor.
Contrary to popular belief, the lumbering big man can still be successful in the modern NBA. He literally has been that himself in the not too distant past, to the point that the Spurs obviously took great effort in signing him and we were all pretty happy about it. After all, he was commonly regarded as the type of player that fits the Spurs stereotype. I still like him as a player and have a lot of respect for him, I just want him to collect his paychecks in peace and never see the floor.

There are degrees to the lumbering. Used to be lumbering-useful. 5 shades slower and he crossed into unplayable. He’s out of synch on defensive rotations time and again. It’s not just moving around, the bounce (such as it was) is gone. Multiple times he was on the receiving end of a lob that the passer expected him to dunk. He just couldn’t get off the ground. That used to be a thing w/ castle last year for a minute, it’s gone. On defense too, limited verticality on contests.
He’s a more expensive plumdog or bismack. The staff should do him a favor and give him time off to get right. He’s killing us when on the floor (-18 in a 16pt win).

Yeah it’s very odd and puts us in a tough spot because while I love Reed and JQ in the future, they’re not proven backup bigs we can rely on in the playoffs right now

it’s never fun to talk shit about a dude as nice and down to earth as luke kornet but he’s just not a good basketball player. has had some postseason heroics in his career but that’s really it man.

Is this gonna finally get Mitch to wake the fuck up? This is far from the only issue though. Our guard heavy lineups are an issue and subsequent lineups are perimeter defense black holes. Julian was a dawg when he was on the floor and needs to be back in the starting lineup.
