Inc.
Inc.

Summer League Grades: San Antonio Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors – Game #2
With first round pick Tarris Reed Jr. getting the night off, the summer league San Antonio Spurs got crushed by a much more talented Golden State Warriors squad. The game was never in doubt and the Warriors cruised to a 98-69 victory. San Antonio has one more game in California before heading to the real deal summer league in Las Vegas.
Stats: Spurs vs. Warriors

Spurs vs. Warriors – Final Grades
Ja’Kobi Gillespie
After going 1-for-8 to start the game, it was good to see Gillespie get going enough to finish 4-for-12 from the field. His shot-making against NBA level athletes is a big question mark. He’s having trouble getting separation for any type of halfway decent look. Gillespie also isn’t a great passer but he takes pretty good care of the ball. I also like that he competes on defense.
Grade: C
Maliq Brown
Brown is clearly a heckuva defender. He’s smart, active and gets off the floor in a hurry. His rebounding was a bit underwhelming though. He needs to really improve in that area because his true position on the next level might be center. Offensively, it’s not the prettiest sight. He rarely looked at the basket, his passing was pedestrian and he doesn’t even really hustle back to the offensive end. He needs to rev up his engine in transition if he wants to make it.
Grade: C
Emanuel Miller
Miller showed some flashes. He hit a pair of three-pointers and his form looks good. He has a lively body on defense, he’s active on the boards and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. The main flaw I see with Miller right now is he can’t really dribble. Whenever he puts the ball on the floor, the results are rarely positive.
Grade: B-
Miles Kelly
Kelly had a very productive summer league opener but he came back down to earth in the second contest. He finished with six points in 20 minutes and wasn’t able to do much against Golden State’s size and physicality. To his credit, Kelly was good on defense and finished with two steals and a block.
Grade: C+
RJ Melendez
Melendez retains a modicum of intrigue. He hit a three, he’s a decent ball-handler and he’s active for a wing his size. I liked his work on the boards and he blocked two more shots. That said, it looks like all of his skills need upgrading (including ball-handling) if he wants to eventually make it to the big leagues.
Grade: C+
RJ Davis
Davis is another player who struggled with what the Warriors exhibited on defense. The short guard finished 1-for-8 from the field with three turnovers. He was arguably the team’s best passer and he played really hard but Davis has to score in order to have value.
Grade: C-
Hyunjung Lee
Lee was a bit of a bright spot. He had 11 points off the bench. In addition to burying a pair of three-pointers, Lee hit a couple of somewhat impressive midrange shots. I thought Lee looked better defensively; his physical play on that side stands out as a positive. The Spurs will always use shooters so he might be worth keeping around into training camp.
Grade: B+
David Muoka
I don’t see a ton of skill out of Muoka but he has legit center size, he’s a good athlete and his reactions are quick. That combination should allow him to play basketball for a living.
Grade: B
Jayden Nunn
Like Gillespie and Davis, Nunn looked especially undersized tonight and the result was a 1-for-6 showing from the field. He played a relentless brand of basketball but it didn’t translate to much.
Grade: C
Igor Milicic Jr.
Milicic was interesting. He looks pretty darn athletic, especially in terms of quickness and changing directions. He remained in motion and helped out a bit on both ends. He drilled a three-pointer with good form — but then followed that up with a pair of ugly misses from the perimeter.
Grade: B-
Harry Wessels
Wessels was decent. He made a couple baskets, had a couple good passes and battled on the boards. Not sure if he has enough size or athleticism to be too intriguing as a prospect but the effort was there.
Grade: B-
Zakai Zeigler
Speaking of small guards, Zeigler is 5-foot-9 on a good day. To his credit, he stuck his nose in the middle of the action during his five minutes on the court. His three assists and two turnovers tell the tale of how there were ups and downs during his stint.
Grade: B-
Tyon Grant-Foster
Following eight seasons in college basketball that included a heart-related health scare, it was cool to see Grant-Foster get a bucket in summer league.
Grade: Inc.
Miles Barnstable
Barnstable is another player who was fun to see hit a shot. He actually hit San Antonio’s final basket, a three-pointer off of an inbounds play. A former D3 hooper, Barnstable has come a long way.
Grade: Inc.
Corliss Williamson
The Warriors had too much talent for the Spurs to handle, particularly without Reed. Williamson using this as an opportunity to get minutes for everyone was fine. However, it would have been nice to see the coaching staff help the second rounders (Gillespie and Brown) get going.
