Spurs to battle Luka Dončić-led Lakers in NBA Cup group play

The Spurs landed in an NBA Cup 2026 group that includes the Luka Dončić-led Los Angeles Lakers and a team Victor Wembanyama and Co. defeated in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs last season, the Portland Trail Blazers.
West Group C also includes the the Stephen Curry-led Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings.
The NBA announced the groups for its in-season tournament Tuesday night. All 30 teams were randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on win-loss records from last season.
The Spurs defeated Doncic and the Lakers in the NBA Cup quarterfinals last season to advance to the semifinals in Las Vegas, where they eliminated the Oklahoma City Thunder before losing to the New York Knicks in the final.
This season’s NBA Cup will tip off Oct. 30 in NBA team markets. Group Play games will be held every Friday through Nov. 27, with additional “Cup Nights” on Nov. 24-25.
The quarterfinals on Dec. 4-5 and the semifinals Dec. 8 and/or Dec. 9 will be held in NBA team markets before the tournament concludes with the championship on Dec. 11 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the league announced.
West Group A includes the Denver Nuggets, the Houston Rockets, the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks and the Utah Jazz.
West Group B consists of the Thunder, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the L.A. Clippers, the New Orleans Pelicans and the Memphis Grizzlies.
