San Antonio woman charged in assault of Knicks fans after NBA Finals

Cassidy Barrera, 21, was charged with aggravated robbery and robbery, court records show. She was booked into the Bexar County Jail last week with a $150,000 bond.
A third woman has been arrested in connection with the assault and robbery of two New York Knicks fans following Game 5 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio earlier this month.
Cassidy Barrera, 21, was charged with aggravated robbery and robbery, according to court records. She was booked into the Bexar County Jail last week with bond set at $150,000.
Barrera joins Maria Gomez, 46, and Destiny Converse, 28, who have also been charged in the case. Court records show Gomez and Converse were each charged with aggravated robbery and two counts of robbery.
Gomez and Converse, who are mother and daughter, later posted bond and were released from jail.
According to an affidavit written by a San Antonio police detective, the incident occurred June 13 near Navarro and East Houston streets downtown.
The victims, a 64-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, told officers they were walking back to their hotel wearing Knicks apparel after the Knicks’ championship victory over the Spurs when they were confronted by Barrera, Gomez, Converse and another unidentified suspect. Investigators say the pair were then assaulted.
According to the affidavit, several bystanders recorded the attack on their cell phones.
The detective wrote that video footage shows Barrera attacking the victims, taking one of their Knicks hats and “proudly” waving it in the air moments after the assault.
“(Barrera) punches both victims in the head multiple times causing injury to both of them,” the affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, witnesses identified Barrera as one of the participants in the assault. After reviewing photographs of Barrera and images from her social media accounts, the detective concluded that she was the woman seen in the cellphone video participating in the attack.
The affidavit also states that video footage shows Gomez, Converse and another individual punching the victims and kicking the male victim in the head.
Investigators allege the four suspects stole hats and other merchandise the victims had purchased at the game, valued at about $600.
Both victims suffered injuries that required hospitalization. According to the affidavit, the 64-year-old man sustained a displaced fracture of his right eye socket.
While three suspects have been arrested, police are still searching for a fourth person believed to have been involved in the assault.
