The Spurs added to their first-round haul in Tuesday’s NBA draft, trading up with Denver to select Connecticut center Tarris Reed Jr.
The move came after the club used the 20th pick to take Kentucky big man Jayden Quaintance.
The Spurs sent Denver pick No. 35 in Wednesday’s second round as well as a pair of future second-rounders for the right to jump back into the first round to nab Reed.
The 6-foot-10 Reed averaged 14.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and two blocks, anchoring UConn’s run to the NCAA national championship game, where the Huskies eventually lost to Michigan.
By adding Quaintance and then Reed, the Spurs displayed a draft-night emphasis on shoring up their frontcourt behind Victor Wembanyama with size and toughness.
