Cartoon captures zaniness of Spurs-Knicks Game 1 of NBA finals
Los Angeles-based illustrator and cartoonist Luke McGarry offers his take on Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Spurs and Knicks.

There’s an unmistakable air of the absurd surrounding the NBA championship series between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks. Who better to capture the atmosphere than a cartoonist?
That’s why the San Antonio Express-News has engaged Luke McGarry, a Los Angeles-based illustrator, cartoonist, designer and animator, to create graphic illustrations of each game in the Spurs-Knicks matchup.
McGarry is a busy and celebrated artist. He has created poster art for Los Angeles music venues, the Coachella festival, record producer Zedd and the comedy rock band Tenacious D, among other clients. His work has appeared in the New Yorker, Playboy, MAD magazine, the Los Angeles Times and the Hollywood Reporter.
