San Antonio crowds cheer clairvoyant corgi ahead of NBA finals

Spurs fans packed the Red McCombs Community Court in Hemisfair for a pep rally to kick off the NBA Finals, cheering on former Spurs guard George Hill and internet sensation Lilo, otherwise known as “Air Corgi”
A parade of people — and pups — marched through San Antonio’s Indy Coffee Club on Wednesday to meet Lilo Ku, the clairvoyant corgi who perfectly predicted the Spurs’ seven-game series win against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Known as “Steph Furry” or @AirCorg on social media, Lilo is a “trickshot making corgi” known for predicting the outcome of national sports face-offs by bumping an inflatable ball into baskets labeled with the opposing teams’ names. In a matter of weeks, the canine clinched celeb status as Spurs fans anxiously awaited to see if her prediction of a win over the Thunder would come true.
It did of course, and on Wednesday, crowds of buzzing fans swarmed through the Northwest Side coffee corner to meet the psychic pooch — with some fans towing along pups of their own. According to Lilo’s owner, Denny Ku, 35, the whipped-up whirlwind has been more than welcome.

“The San Antonio community is crazy,” Ku said through a smile as Lilo stayed safely tucked into his backpack. “I didn’t know it was this big until we went to the rally last night, and we were getting swarmed by the love and appreciation that we’ve been able to share with you guys.”
Ku and his family, including Lilo, are from Houston. He told the San Antonio Express-News that he adopted the pup when she was “very young” and didn’t realize until much later that she had an affinity for shooting hoops.
“During the COVID-era is when we discovered she had this amazing talent for hitting balls,” he said. “We thought, ‘Hey, can we transform this into doing trick shots and playing basketball?’ and it just really got us into loving a lot of different games.”

In a Tuesday post to social media, the pooch predicted the Spurs would nab a sixth NBA Championship title over the Knicks. With the Spurs set to face off against the New York team in Game 1 of the NBA championship series at the Frost Bank Center on Wednesday night, fans all over the 210 are once again waiting to see if the corgi’s prognosis will ring true.
Only time will tell if Lilo’s finals pick pans out, but Wednesday’s turnout proved the corgi is already a champion among Spurs fans.
