Clearly Fox isn’t totally right. Before the two games he missed vs OKC, he’d only scored fewer than 16 in one game this playoffs. In the 6 games since he’s been back his best scoring performance has been 15 points.
This being the case, it’s lunacy to have him play 38 minutes. He’s really not himself and can only really protect the ball and set the table. Mitch needs to treat him like he’s Mike Conley, get him on there with Harper or Castle when we need to settle things down, but otherwise it’s asking too much. He’s playing on one leg and can’t hit a shot atm. He can start, but he should be the one playing 24 mins, 36 each for Harper & Castle.

Game 1 was great until San Antonio straight up fumbled the game away the last 10 minutes. It was rough to watch. Still most of that game San Antonio showed they can hag with that team. Brunson was doing work but I think he didn’t fully realize the game was going to be a fight.

this is a fix that probably wont come now but we need to find ways to get Wemby the ball on the elbow or short corner to initiate his offense and give him different looks for the defense to deal with, constantly having him get the ball 27 feet from the hoop in iso trying to dribble drive isnt working and hasnt all playoffs.

Not being able to consistently maintain a lead is a sign of inexperience. Notice that, with a substantial lead, our team started jacking up 3s early in the shotclock when they should have taken higher value shots later in the shotclock.
Remember that our boys are getting the best experience they can get, and most of them are greenhorns. The players will be able to see what weaknesses get exploited at the highest level of play, the coaches will be able to see the roster issues at that level of play, and win or lose they will have the best information possible to address these weaknesses in the off season.
I guess I am saying that even if we lose the finals, this is still a win for the team. Steel is forged in fire, as they say.

Fox really killed any chance for a comeback in the last couple minutes. He missed Castle under the bucket for a wide open dunk and instead bricked a jumper, then committed a BAD foul on the other end.

I’ll be fuming over this one for a long time (especially, if they don’t win game two). It’s one thing to get dominated and lose by 15 or 20 points, but they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in this one. The Knicks weren’t even that good themselves. Even with Wemby and especially Fox being bad, and the overall poor shooting, this still should have been a win. Why they continued to push for threes when they were up by 14 boggles my mind. Just go for the simple baskets, the simple plays and kill out the clock. There was absolutely no reason to rush on offense. Definitely some inexperience showed both coaching-wise and players. There was also zero reason to sit Harper, either. He should be playing 35 minutes a game at this point.
It already feels like this series got away from them, and it makes game two an absolute must-win. You go down 0-2 heading back to an insane MSG, and the Knicks will smell blood and it could be over quickly.

Really rough game. Wemby looked completely exhausted by the end of the first quarter. I don’t know if it’s just his alien body not adapting quite yet to the intensity and longevity of a season this deep but there needs to be a better game plan for him.
This Knicks squad is scary good man, Brunson is cold blooded and KAT is probably the real Chet in terms of a guy who can rival Wemby the dude is a dawg. Harper is *him* and as long as he’s playing that good Mitch needs to let him hoop, he took over the game in the first half.
Fox was bad and I think still dealing with the ankle for sure. Shooting wasn’t great for either team. Pretty sloppy game in general as a product.
Game 2 is a must win and I’d say the more they blow the Knicks out the better. Shut them down going back to MSG and they need to figure out a way to steal one in New York.
Every round they’ve hit a wall in game 1 or 2 and broken through it and become an even better version of themselves, and this is it. There’s nowhere else to go. I think they can win this series, they didn’t look completely overmatched and out skilled but this is going to be a brutal slugfest and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends in game 7 in San Antonio, but they’re gonna have to earn it on the court and push this good and hungry Knicks team to the limit.

Gotta figure out how to guard Brunson w/o constant switches. 2nd half Knicks worked switches until Champ was covering and then Brunson broke him/our D down. Castle needs fight thru screens. Also use Bryant more … he stays in front of Brunson more effectively than either Champ or Vassell + 6 hard fouls can help wear Brunson down.

All in all, for a first final game for the young guys it went kind of as expected. Fast heartbeats and missed shots. The 2nd game should calm them some now that they got the jitters out.
Spurs will have to figure out how to handle Fox and Harper this series. Harper can bring more on offense but can be very wild at times and Fox settles things down some but has been playing ineffective.
Castle could be the difference maker and needs to get more shots and drives leading to me FTA as he and Wemby are the primary with Fox struggling bad.
Should be a fun series regardless

i know this is gonna sound like cope but im even more confident in spurs winning. This reminded me so much of Minnesota game 1. The offensive processing was so bad and i don’t think it was due to knicks defense. My biggest worry was knicks shooting being real but we were able to dictate their shot selection with our defense.
If I see wemby iso from the perimeter again, Imma pull my hair out. Also should leave hart open every fucking play, we are commting way too much attention.

Let him eat those boards, get those free throws, limit him long range shooting. They don’t have an answer for Wemby, but when Wemby has to force bad shots you get a 20% shooting rate.
We lost by ten, got shit calls in our favor, and sadly most of our stars looked like they’ve never played a playoff game prior to right now.
This will change in game 2, and we will go 1-1 heading into MSG but if the adjustments aren’t made, we will need to win BOTH in New York. We cannot go down 2-0.

Mitch made two terrible decisions.
Putting up Kornet when we tied the game after the timeout and not playing Harper after thar.
Sure it worked out in game 7 but we didn’t need to bench Wemby here that was so stupid.
