“The Dream” scored 41 points in a Rockets victory that night, putting “The Admiral” into a torture chamber of spins and shakes, and prompting the often-replayed call from a Houston TV announcer declaring that Robinson was “just bamboozled!”
“I don’t even know how I can say it with a straight face, but I thought most of the time I defended him pretty well,” Robinson told reporters that night. “The man just played as well as I’ve seen anybody play in a long time.”
And although people tend to forget this, Robinson and the Spurs didn’t just lie down after that. They responded by winning back-to-back games in Houston to even the series, with the MVP playing well, if not spectacularly so.
