Nowitzki, Griffin and Haslem spoke publicly and agreed the move wasn’t popular with them. Haslem, a 20-year pro with the Miami Heat, was the most demonstrative of the analysts in expressing his thoughts.

“As a leader, I would not have walked down there and shook their hands,” Haslem said. “As a leader of my troops and my guys, I would not have shown that weakness. The game is not over. I’ve got eight minutes left. I still got smoke coming out my ears. … Let me calm down for those eight minutes since I’m not in, and then after those eight minutes, I’ll go down there, and I’ll congratulate them and their coaching staff.

“In the middle of the game, when I got guys that have sat on the bench and cheered me on (going into the game for garbage time)? No, I’m gonna sit there and cheer those guys on. I’m gonna put that energy back into those guys, and then when the game is over, I’ll go over there and shake their hand. That’s just the way I handle things. I’m a little bit different. I’m a little bit old-school. I understand there’s a different generation, but I don’t think if they were beating San Antonio, Wemby would have shook his hand with eight minutes left.”

During the Wolves’ postgame news conference, Edwards said he knew he was done for the night, so he figured he would pay his respects early.

“At that point, you know you ain’t going back in, so you’re just trying to get them respect they deserve,” he said.

Nowitzki, a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, had a different opinion.

“I’ve watched the NBA and been a part of it for a long, long time. I’ve never seen this,” Nowitzki said. “A guy walking into the huddle with eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter and dapping up the entire team? Too much for me. Obviously, you can do that after the game and show plenty of respect.”

Griffin cosigned simply by saying, “I’ve never seen that before.”

Edwards scored 24 points Friday night. The 24-year-old struggled through injuries to both knees in the early part of the series, but he helped the Wolves to even the series before San Antonio found its groove in the final two games.

@Kris The world isn’t binary. People are acting like Ant shaking hands with an opponent that is currently dominating is automatically disrespectful of his teammates. It’s a false dilemma. Would I have done it then? Probably not, but he was told he was done for the night, which means the Wolves are waving the white flag. There was no magical comeback on the way, and everyone knew it. So what was meant to be a classy move is now being ripped on because showing respect to an opponent is… weak? Is this really where we’re at as a society?
People, it’s called sportsmanship. I know people in power these days are modeling that being awful to those who aren’t “on your team” is how you handle yourself, but it’s time to be better than that. Aren’t we all a little tired of being tricked into being outraged all the time? On a certain level, I understand being puzzled by the move. It is unusual. But Ant clarified why he did it, and claiming that he somehow doesn’t respect his teammates is an absurd argument. We all know he does. His teammates know he does. And everyone knew the game was over at that point.
You want to be mad about something? There are plenty of options: find something real and do something about it.

Sorry, but that doesn’t stand up at all. There were EIGHT AND HALF MINUTES LEFT. Really, what’s the difference between waiting that time, cheering on your squad, not giving up and then going to congratulate the other team. @Jay R. Yeah, I don’t think anyone is suggesting ant be "cancelled ". And I’m all for good sportsmanship. But I think the strength of the authors argument lies in the whole idea that his teammates were rooting him on for five and three-quarter games, and rather than sit on the bench and root them on, he decided to go congratulate the enemy. So I get it. I don’t know that he needs to be vilified but I don’t think it’s a good move. I don’t think it’s a good look.

Yes, of course you should congratulate the better team. But there is no benefit to doing that with 8.5 minutes left versus after the final buzzer. Be with your team until the final buzzer and go – with your team – to congratulate the other team at the end. @N_Contact 2. And the comments below on what Prime Video should focus are spot on. NBA sold the broadcast to a service full of glitches with poor interface and functionality. Thumbnails don’t well, fast forward or rewind are terrible slow, spotty and confusing, and randomly put one back to the beginning of the broadcast. Ah, and sometimes the broadcast blacks out. Terrible user experience. This does not happen with other streaming services.
