San Antonio Public Library launches ‘Read Like Wemby’ list
Know what else gets Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama pumped up besides a win? Reading sci-fi and fantasy novels.
As if fans didn’t have enough reasons to look up to Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, now they can look up some of his favorite sci-fi authors at the local library.
San Antonio Public Library just set up a new “Read Like Wemby” display at Central Library featuring books by Robert Jordan and other science fiction and fantasy luminaries inspired by Wembanyama’s love of the literary genres.
Some of the books on the Wemby list include various “Dune” novels by Brian Herbert, Jordan’s “The Eye of the World,” Stephen King’s “The Outsider” and several works by Terry Pratchett and Brandon Sanderson.
The books are all available in print, with most also available as ebooks and audio books via Libby. You can access both analog and digital formats via the San Antonio Public Library’s Facebook post here and below.
A voracious reader, Wembanyama knocks down science fiction and fantasy books the way he blocks shots — with ease and glee. The Defensive Player of the Year often totes a book on the road for away games, even in the pregame tunnel and at the post-game podium.
“I think I read more than before, with all the traveling,” Wembanyama told the Express-News in 2023 during his rookie season.

“I’m saying before elementary school, this is when I started reading books basically,” he continued. "I read a lot during my whole elementary school, but I read less and less in middle school, and then I started again in high school.
“It’s just something I love to do.”
Being one of the biggest, if not tallest sci-fi novel fans has its perks. In 2024, Wembanyama met his literary hero Sanderson while in Utah to face the Jazz. Sanderson got Wembanyama’s game jersey after the Spurs win and Wembanyama got a signed copy of one of Sanderson’s books.
