(NBA/NHL) — 12.46/70

San Antonio ranks among best 2026 NBA playoff cities

San Antonio ranks No. 7 among 2026 playoff cities, standing out for its affordability, River Walk nightlife and family-friendly attractions, according to BonusFinder.

Playoff energy in San Antonio isn’t stopping at the arena — it’s turning the city into one of the most exciting (and affordable) destinations in the postseason.

A new study from BonusFinder names San Antonio the seventh-most exciting playoff city in 2026, highlighting its mix of affordability, nightlife, and family-friendly attractions as the Spurs continue their postseason run.

The analysis examined 27 NBA and NHL playoff cities, using TripAdvisor data to score destinations across seven categories, including hotels, bars, entertainment, and attractions. San Antonio earned a score of 14.27 out of 70, just behind San Francisco at 14.35, marking one of the tightest gaps in the top 10.

Researchers found San Antonio stands out most for value. The city listed 127 budget hotels, second only to Houston, and more than major markets like New York City, Los Angeles and Miami.

Entertainment options also played a role, with 120 bars and clubs, many clustered along the San Antonio River Walk, as well as 25 sports bars and 10 amusement parks, including Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld San Antonio.

“San Antonio is one of the most underrated cities in the playoff field. It sits just outside the top six and is separated from San Francisco by less than a tenth of a point, but what it offers traveling fans is clear: strong affordability, a genuine entertainment district on the River Walk, and family attractions that most comparably ranked cities can’t match. For fans watching the budget, it’s the most compelling case outside of Houston,” said Luciano Passavanti, senior gambling news editor at BonusFinder.

Still, the study noted a limitation for some visitors: Texas does not allow commercial casino gambling, and sports betting remains illegal statewide, meaning San Antonio lacks casinos or an arena sportsbook.

How the rankings were calculated

BonusFinder said it analyzed TripAdvisor listings for all 27 NBA and NHL playoff cities in 2026, recording the number of venues across seven categories: budget hotels, sports bars, bars and clubs, casinos, amusement parks, water parks, and adrenaline or extreme tours.

Each category was scored on a 0–10 scale using min-max normalization, with the city posting the highest number of listings earning a 10. Those category scores were then combined for a total possible score of 70. Data was collected in April 2026.

The study also treated shared metro areas separately, meaning teams playing in the same region — such as those in Los Angeles — were evaluated by their specific arena locations rather than as a single market.

Top 10

Here are the top 10 playoff cities for off-court excitement:

  1. Las Vegas (NHL) — 38.22/70
  2. Orlando (NBA) — 28.79/70
  3. New York City (NBA) — 26.33/70
  4. Houston (NBA) — 21.39/70
  5. Miami (NBA) — 14.84/70
  6. San Francisco (NBA) — 14.35/70
  7. San Antonio (NBA) — 14.27/70
  8. Los Angeles (NBA/NHL) — 12.46/70
  9. Phoenix (NBA) — 10.13/70
  10. Dallas (NHL) — 9.59/70

Even with limitations around gambling options, researchers say San Antonio’s balance of cost and culture makes it a strong destination — especially for budget-conscious fans traveling for playoff games.
