NBC Sports announced Wednesday its top NBA announcing crew will be on hand when the Spurs host first-time All-Star Deni Avdija and the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 1 of their first round best-of-seven Western Conference series.
Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Reggie Miller (analyst), three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford (analyst) and Zora Stephenson (courtside reporter) will call Sunday’s 8 p.m. game at the Frost Bank Center.
Crawford suited up for the Trail Blazers in 2011-2012.
The NBA playoffs are back on NBC for the first time since 2002.
Wembanyama, the two-time All-Star and league MVP candidate who the Spurs selected No. 1 overall in the 2023 NBA draft, is ready for the spotlight and the chance to play in what he called his first “high stakes” game since he led France with 26 points in its 98-87 loss to the U.S. in the gold medal game at the Olympics on Aug. 10, 2024, in Paris.
“I’m comfortable with it,” the overwhelming favorite to win defensive player of the year told reporters Wednesday after practice at the Victory Capital Performance Center.
The last time the Spurs played in the postseason on NBC was May 12, 2002, when they lost 87-85 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals.
The Trail Blazers have not played in the postseason on NBC since Game 3 of the Western Conference first round on April 28, 2002, a 92-91 loss to the Lakers.
NBC Sports announced it will air up to 41 games live throughout the first round and conference semifinals, as well as exclusive coverage of the entire Western Conference finals.
Tirico and Miller will stay in San Antonio to broadcast Game 2 on Tuesday night.
