I promised you more Carter Bryant, and by golly gillicky willickers, you’re going to get more Carter Bryant. In this frame, the best basketball player in the world was channeling his best Dante from “Clerks,” thinking to himself, “I wasn’t even supposed to be here today! Stupid 65-game rule” while trying to block the energetic rookie barrelling down the lane.

If both the Spurs and Nuggets advance out of the first round, they will meet in the second round so personally I hope the 3-time MVP has a short memory or will conveniently be busy thinking of his prized horses rather than having an ax to grind with CB.

Well folks, we made it. This chapter of the regular season finally closed, and after a brief drought, our favorite basketball team is headed back to the playoffs. I wanted to thank J.R. Wilco for giving me another year to wax on about the San Antonio Spurs. I first started writing for Pounding the Rock in the fall of 2018, which means that was also the last time the Spurs made the playoffs. It’s been some lean years, but all worth it to see this team rebuilt from the ground up, brick by brick—or rather, rock by rock. Go Spurs Go!

spurs fans really embarassing with Fox takes. He is flawed but he is an all star who asked to come here, played with a broken shooting hand and has accepted an off ball role as a #2. It works for 62 wins yet he’s always maligned win or lose. I think its all the losing seasons and spurs fans not having a max player for a while, since 2018. some people act like 50M-60M is not just the normal price of a star nowadays. Not saying i agree with those salaries but they have to pay someone and it is literally working well for us so far.

last night was simply an L because of no Wemby. Without him, a smart denver defense (y’all act like these 2nd unit players aren’t title level and aren’t leveling up too due to playing for a title contender) was able to focus on Fox/Harper/Castle. With no gravity from wemby that’s what closed passing lanes, driving lanes for our guards.

also Plumdog is really bad lol. Bismack looked better than him.

My last comment on this last night game then guess i move on.
I understand the frustration of most, was also pissed this morning but this is basket ball, sometimes end of bench players are just fresh and feel the urgency of showing they belong, and of course they belong, you don’t reach an nba franchise bench by being a total loser.. think back about DJG early this season how he went super hot in a game coz he want to earn recognition…so sure it sucks for our starters, but they had a long and emotional season, guess we can give them a break. No?

Also check out the Celtics magic game, Orlando had a chance of playing PO direct vs 3rd string players and they lost as well… makes you wonder.

I think we need to take a deep breath. Last night sucked because we had no size. We had Plumlee and Biyombo. Mitch should’ve tried Olynyk but it is what it is.

We couldn’t make a shot for about half of the 2nd quarter. The 22-0 run by Denver killed us. We need to remember this team won more than most imagined. Who saw 62 wins this year? Not me.

We need to remember this team is still young. They’re going to play like it at times. Last night was one of those times. Jokic is still Jokic even with a bum wrist. He’s eligible for end of season awards.

We have a good team that’s young and inexperienced. We were going to have to play Denver at some point. I’m not going to be mad if we lose in the 2nd round. Some folks here act like anything less than a title is a failure. I wouldn’t expect a title this year as that’s really unlikely to happen. We have to start somewhere and the journey begins next weekend on Sunday.

I think we need to remember we were in the lottery for roughly the last half decade. We have had picks of 11, 12, 9, 1, 4, 2 and 14 since. Out of those picks, 3 of those were high lottery picks which we’ve struck gold on. With those picks we’ve picked Devin, Primo, Jeremy, Victor, Castle, Dylan and Carter respectively. Primo and Jeremy didn’t work out for different reasons but overall we have done pretty decent in the draft.

We traded for Fox to have a legitimate number 2 guy behind Victor a year ago February. He wasn’t going to be the first option anymore which he accepted. He has sacrificed his stats to play alongside our young superstar in Victor who was the main reason why Fox came here. We didn’t know at the time that we were going to luck into Dylan in the draft lottery until last May. We were very lucky to win the draft lottery in 2023 and very lucky to luck into Dylan last May.

The 65 game rule was supposed to be for intentionally resting players, not because a player was injured. Cade is ineligible for end of season awards through no fault of his own because of a collapsed lung which was a freak thing for the NBA. As a result of the 11 game absence that caused him, he is now ineligible for end of season awards like All NBA, All NBA defensive team and MVP. Victor played Friday night because of the 65 game rule because he’d have sat otherwise and Jokic played last night for 15 minutes to get eligible for end of season awards.
