Tiago Splitter’s trip back to San Antonio wasn’t a total bust.
The night before Portland’s 112-101 loss to the Spurs on Wednesday in a game that had playoff implications for the team from the City of Roses, the Blazers interim coach broke bread at a local restaurant with some of his former Spurs teammates.
“It was great. Seeing my friends and talk a little bit about life, and basketball, get an update on what they are doing,” Splitter said before Wednesday’s game of his dinner with Manu Ginobili and Boris Diaw.

Splitter added that Diaw picked up the check “because I took the one before that…and it was a French restaurant.”
Ginobili posted a photo of the three, who were teammates on the Spurs’ 2014 NBA championship team that beat LeBron James and the Miami Heat in five games in the Finals, on social media.
“Loved catching up last night with my good friends coach @tiagosplitter and the one and only @theborisdiaw. Missed them!! Hope to see you guys soon again!” Ginobili wrote on X.
He might get his wish: The Trail Blazers and the Spurs could potentially meet in the first-round of the playoffs. Perhaps Ginobili will pick up the check next time.
