Victor Wembanyama wins third straight Defensive Player of the Month
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama said toward the end of February that he had not yet reached his full potential as a shot blocker.
“I can for sure get better,” he said.
In March, he backed those words up, averaging 3.73 blocks for the month after averaging 3.5 in February.
On Thursday, the NBA named Wembanyama its Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month for March, marking his third consecutive month to win the honor and the fourth time overall he’s collected it in his three seasons in the league.
In 15 games in March, Wembanyama also averaged 12.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He logged 10 games with at least four blocks and six games with two or more steals and closed the month by recording four consecutive games with 15-plus rebounds.
The 7-foot-4 Frenchman also limited opponents to 40.9% shooting, and his defensive rating of 99.8 ranked second in the league.
Detroit’s Ausar Thompson won the honor in the Eastern Conference.
