The Spurs held a moment of silence before Sunday’s home game against Houston in honor of former college scout Mark Freidinger, who died last week at age 76.
Freidinger was best known in the college basketball community as an analyst on Wake Forest basketball radio broadcasts, a position he held from 1990-2025.
Before that, Friedinger was an assistant coach under Larry Brown, where he became acquainted with future Spurs executives Gregg Popovich and R.C. Buford. Friedinger worked in the Spurs’ scouting department for nearly 20 years.
“It was an honor to call Mark Freidinger a friend and colleague for four decades,” Popovich said in a statement released by the team. “Dinger’s excellence in scouting played a significant role in the success the Spurs have enjoyed over the years.”
