With Thursday night’s 121-106 win over Detroit, the Spurs improved to a combined 6-1 against the NBA’s top two teams.

The Spurs (45-17) finished their season series against West-leading Oklahoma City (49-15) with a 4-1 record. They finished 2-0 against the East-leading Pistons (45-16) after beating them for the second time in 11 days.

“It matters a lot,” Spurs star Victor Wembanyama said of the team’s domination of the Thunder and Detroit.

The Spurs entered Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers having won 13 of their last 14 games.

The Spurs are the only team in the league to beat both the Thunder and the Pistons twice this season.

“That can definitely build confidence, but we have guys in this locker room who don’t care,” Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox, who pumped in 29 points against Detroit, second on the Spurs only to Wembanyama’s 38. "No matter who we’re playing against, you let them off the leash and they go out there and they do what they do.

“So, obviously, we’ve played well against the top teams in the league, but it doesn’t matter who you put out there. We have guys who are ready to go.”
