(Jeremy Sochan)?

Jeremy Sochan opens up on new life with Knicks

PHILADELPHIA — Victor Wembanyama said he didn’t know which New York Knicks player did it.

In the end, it didn’t matter.

During the second half of the Spurs’ 114-89 loss at New York on Sunday, Wembanyama was fouled on a 3-point attempt directly in front of the Knicks’ bench. After the whistle, Wembanyama felt a hand grab at him and offered an annoyed, no-look swat toward the offender.

The fact the hand belonged to ex teammate Jeremy Sochan?

“I don’t care,” Wembanyama said with a smile. “I’ll give it to him the same.”

Sochan logged only two minutes of garbage time in his first meeting with his old team, but still found a way to annoy his former team. The No. 9 pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Sochan reached a buyout agreement just before the All-Star break that cleared a path for him to join the Knicks and try to revive his career.

Sunday marked his sixth appearance for his new team.

“I’m settling in,” said Sochan, his hair dyed a mixture of Knicks orange and blue. “It’s been chaotic for sure. It doesn’t help that it’s in season, so we’ve been traveling as well. Everyone has been welcoming — the owners and the players and the whole community. Everything has been positive.”

Like his basketball career, Sochan’s life remains in flux. He has been living out of two suitcases in Manhattan, with most of his belongings still stashed in San Antonio. His two dogs remain in the Alamo City as well.

“There’s definitely a life there still,” Sochan said.

That life, however, has moved on. Having fallen out of coach Mitch Johnson’s rotation in San Antonio, Sochan relocated to New York in hopes of proving his worth to the Knicks — and 28 other teams.

He is destined to become a free agent this summer.

“His presence has been great,” New York coach Mike Brown said. “He’s a fantastic human being. And the neat part about it? He’s 22. This is Year 4 for him. We feel there’s a lot there. He can be a really good player for us.”

Sochan hasn’t done much to make his mark with the Knicks so far, averaging 1.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.5 minutes per appearance.

“I’m just trying to find my feet in this place,” Sochan said.

After three-plus seasons in San Antonio, Sochan said he is ready to embrace whatever the future holds — whether in New York or elsewhere.

“Life goes fast,” Sochan said. “You have to change the way you think and you have to accept it. I think I’ve accepted a new journey.”

Even in Knicks blue, Sochan remains intent on being himself.

An hour before tipoff Sunday, someone asked Sochan — one of the NBA’s most renowned pests — if there was anyone on the Spurs he was most looking forward to annoying during the game.

His answer proved prophetic enough.

“We’ll see,” Sochan said with a gap-toothed grin. “I’m gonna talk my (expletive) though.”

Harper starstruck in Garden debut

Growing up across the Hudson River in New Jersey, Spurs rookie Dylan Harper has attended dozens of Knicks games as a fan.

Sunday marked his first time at Madison Square Garden as an NBA player.

Harper said he was most starstruck by the row of famous faces seated courtside – celebrities like Ben Stiller, Larry David, Tracy Morgan and Michael Strahan.

“That was probably the biggest wow for me,” Harper said.

Harper had played at MSG once before in college, as his Rutgers squad faced Michigan State there last year.

His NBA Garden debut was middling. Harper finished with eight points and four assists in 22 minutes and committed two consecutive fouls against the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson on one critical first-quarter possession.

Embiid injured for showdown with Spurs

The Spurs will end their nine-game rodeo road trip Tuesday in Philadelphia against a 76ers team missing its biggest star.

Former MVP Joel Embiid has been ruled out with an oblique injury suffered Thursday against Miami.

The oft-injured Embiid is averaging 26 points in 33 games this season. He averaged 29 points in five games in February, tops in the Eastern Conference for the month.
