INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Victor Wembanyama is already making plans for this summer.
The All-Star center told a French media outlet on Sunday that he wants to join Team France for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers on July 3-6 and Aug. 24-Sept. 1.
“Of course, that’s absolutely my goal,” he told BeIN Sports France. "But I hope I won’t be able to make the first window — that would mean we (the Spurs) went all the way to the NBA Finals. I hope the timing will be too tight.
“But for the August window, absolutely. That’s my goal to be there. Knock on wood, if I’m healthy.”
Wembanyama led the French team to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, averaging 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game in the tournament.
The 22-year-old undoubtedly has a lot more planned for the offseason, but it’s clear he wants to spend at least a portion of the summer representing his country again on a global stage.
