(Victor Wembanyama)

评分: A-

(De’Aaron Fox)

评分: A

(Stephon Castle)

(Julian Champagnie)

评分: A-

(Harrison Barnes)

(Keldon Johnson)

(Dylan Harper)

(Carter Bryant)

(Jordan McLaughlin)

(Kelly Olynyk)

(Jeremy Sochan)

(Mitch Johnson)

Grades: San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz – Game #45

The San Antonio Spurs notched another road win to improve to an overall record of 31-14 on the season. The Utah Jazz (15-30) put up a good fight but the Spurs were able to gain separation by turning up their defensive intensity in the fourth quarter. In the final stanza, the good guys outscored the Jazz 29-17 to complete the victory.

Stats: Spurs at Jazz

Spurs at Jazz – Final Grades

Victor Wembanyama

Coming off of a rare poor outing, Wembanyama was back in business in Salt Lake City. He stuffed the stat sheet with 26 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks and three assists. Notably, Wembanyama played 33 minutes — the most minutes he’s played in a game since Nov. 14. Against the Jazz, Wembanyama was deadly from deep, made strong moves to the basket and passed the ball well. Defensively, he was extra devastating and guarded the rim very well.

Grade: A-

De’Aaron Fox

Fox had one of his most efficient games of the season. He finished 6-for-9 from three-point range, 4-for-4 from inside of the arc and 5-for-6 at the free throw line. He also turned it over only once while dishing out five assists. As the numbers suggest, Fox was red hot from the field and had his aggression dialed in to an appropriate level. When he’s playing like this, the Spurs are legitimately difficult to beat.

Grade: A

Stephon Castle

The good: Castle’s determination going to the rim paid off by him shooting ten freebies. He hit a three-pointer, distributed a team-high eight assists and pulled down six boards. The second year guard turned it over only one time and played stout defense. The bad: Castle’s finishing was off and he finished just 3-for-9 from two-point range. He also missed three free throws. His pace on offense was inconsistent and he rarely looked comfortable on the court.

Grade: C+

Julian Champagnie

It’s going to be difficult for the coaching staff to take Champagnie out of the starting lineup with how he’s playing. In Utah, he was 5-for-9 from three-point range on his way to 17 points. The sharpshooter also passed the ball well and played inspired defense. All in all, Champagnie is playing at a career best level right now.

Grade: A-

Harrison Barnes

I don’t know if Barnes got old overnight or what’s happening but he’s a shadow of his previous self. In 22 minutes, Barnes missed all four of his three-point attempts and finished 1-for-5 from the field. He also pulled down just one rebound and played poor defense. Hopefully Barnes can bounce back at some point because it’s getting ugly.

Grade: D-

Keldon Johnson

Johnson had another successful night coming off the bench. In 31 minutes, he poured in 21 points on 9-for-19 shooting from the field. He also dished out five assists and didn’t turn the ball over. Johnson was at his best driving to the rim and then finishing with a soft touch in the lane. I also thought his defense was better than usual. The only strange part of his evening was the fact that he pulled down just one rebound.

Grade: B+

Dylan Harper

Harper had problems with decision-making on both ends of the court and, as a result, the rookie saw his minutes get limited to just 13. It wasn’t a total disaster of a performance, though. He had four points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks in his minutes. The activity level was there — there were just too many mental mistakes.

Grade: C-

Carter Bryant

Bryant is starting to string together positive performances. Versus the Jazz, the rookie looked pretty darn good. He scored seven points in 13 minutes and wasn’t second-guessing any of his decisions. Bryant was also strong rebounding-wise and he had a couple wow moments on defense. Let’s hope Bryant can keep it up and continue to improve.

Grade: B+

Jordan McLaughlin

McLaughlin didn’t score in his nine minutes but he was really active. He finished with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. His passing was especially impressive.

Grade: B+

Kelly Olynyk

Olynyk did a lot in his eight minutes … but it was mostly negative contributions. He was 1-for-4 from the field and turned the ball over twice. Considering the team turned it over a total of ten times, Olynyk’s sloppiness stood out like a sore thumb.

Grade: D+

Jeremy Sochan

Sochan played four minutes and failed to record a single stat. This was yet another example of why he has lost his spot in the rotation.

Grade: Inc.

Mitch Johnson

Johnson coached reasonably well. Pulling the plug on Barnes was the right call, as was giving extended minutes to Champagnie. Personally, though, I would have liked to have seen more minutes for Bryant in this one.
