Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama returns after leaving court versus Bucks

San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama reacts toward a referee during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, in Minneapolis. Wembanyama left during the first quarter against the Bucks on Saturday following a collision with Giannis Antetokounmpo. He returned from the locker room and was on the court to start the second.

A hush fell over the Frost Bank Center after Spurs star Victor Wembanyama limped to the locker room after a collision with Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo early in the first quarter Thursday night.

Fortunately for the Spurs, the 22-year-old Frenchman was back on the court at the start of the second period after receiving treatment in the Spurs locker room. Fans erupted in cheers upon seeing him return to the bench before checking in.

Attempting to draw a charge against Antetokounmpo, Wembanyama fell to the court with 9:18 left in the quarter. After getting up on his own power, he limped straight down the court into the tunnel toward the locker room with athletic trainer Will Sevening and members of the medical staff in tow.

A replay posted on social media by ESPN showed Antetokounmpo’s right knee colliding with Wembanyama’s right knee. Wembanyama crumpled to the court holding his knee in obvious pain while Antetokounmpo headed to the foul line.

Wembanyama recently missed two games with a bone bruise on his left knee. He also missed 12 games earlier in the season due to a left calf strain.

The Spurs did not immediately issue an injury report. The first quarter ended with the Spurs nursing a 31-27 lead.
