Victor Wembanyama recorded one block in Tuesday’s game, swatting away a Chet Holmgren 3-point attempt in the second half.
He had two other near blocks wiped out by goaltending calls.
The blocked shot that counted gave Wembanyama the 500th of his career, making him — at age 22 and nine days — the second-youngest player in league history to reach that plateau. Atlanta’s Josh Smith was the youngest at 21 years and 88 days.
Wembanyama got to 500 blocks in 143 career games, making him the fourth-fastest player to hit that mark since that statistic began being recorded in 1973-74. Only Manute Bol, David Robinson and Mark Eaton got there in fewer games.
Wembanyama had 70 blocks through 26 games this season (2.7 per game), trailing only Indiana’s Jay Huff, who has 85 swats in 40 games (2.3).
