By Jeph Duarte | Pounding The Rock (PtR), 2026-01-05 12:00:00

Open Thread: Checking in on every Spurs draftee in the NBA

I was watching some non-Spurs NBA games during my holiday break and saw many familiar faces. Some players who at one time or another were members of the Spurs, others who were drafted and have since moved on. It got me to thinking about all the changes the Spurs have made to assemble this roster of talent.

Today, we’ll look at current NBA players who were drafted and played for the Spurs. For this exercise, I will not be mentioning players who were drafted by the Spurs but traded before ever wearing a Silver & Black jersey, so guys like Kam Jones (2025’s 38th draft pick) and Rob Dillingham (2024’s 8th overall pick) are not part of this discussion.

For starters, the Spurs still have the following players on their roster:

Keldon Johnson (2019), Devin Vassell (2020), Jeremy Sochan (2022) Victor Wembanyama, (2023), Stephon Castle (2024), Harrison Ingram (2024), Dylan Harper (2025) and Carter Bryant (2025).

Starting back, here are the Spurs draftees still in the league and NOT on the San Antonio Spurs:

Kyle Anderson (2014) spent four years with the Silver & Black playing multiple roles. He signed with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2018 where he spent another four seasons. In 2022, Anderson signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In July 2024, he was part of a six-team trade that sent him to Golden State. Last February, he was sent to the Miami Heat as part of the five-team trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State. Last July, he was traded to the Utah Jazz.

Dejounte Murray (2016) was drafted 29th overall in 2016. In his first two seasons, he showed a lot of promise and broke or matched many Spurs franchise records including becoming just the fourth rookie in Spurs history to record a point/rebound double-double in a playoff game, becoming the first player since Kawhi Leonard with 500 points and 300 rebounds in his first 100 games with the Spurs, reaching 385 rebounds in 1,436 minutes, surpassing Johnny Moore’s 378 in 2,689 minutes, and becoming the then-youngest player in NBA history to be named All-Defense (only to be later surpassed by Victor Wembanyama). Murray missed his entire third season with an ACL injury. On June 30, 2022, Murray was traded with Jock Landale to the Atlanta Hawks for Danilo Gallinari and multiple future first-round picks. He spent two seasons with the Hawks. Murray was then traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He played in 31 games before contracting torn right Achilles which has sidelined him ever since.

Derrick White (2017) played his first four-and-a-half seasons with the Spurs. On February 10, 2022, White was traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, a 2022 first-round pick (that became Blake Wesley), and the rights to swap 2028 first-round picks. He won a title with the Celtics in 2024 and is currently their starting shooting guard.

Tre Jones (2020) played with the Spurs until being traded last February in a three-team trade that anded him in Chicago. He’s found a home with the Bulls where he is still playing.

Malaki Branham (2022) and Blake Wesley (2022) were traded last summer with a 2026 second-round draft pick to the Washington Wizards for Kelly Olynyk. Branham is currently with the Wizards. Wesley was waived by the Wizards and has since signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. He’s currently out with a foot injury. Wesley was given a well-deserved welcome back video tribute on Saturday at the Frost Bank Center.

Sidy Cissoko (2023) was traded to Sacramento as part of the three-team trade that brought De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin to San Antonio. Cissoko was then repackaged and traded to the Washington Wizards where he was waived. He signed a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers and has since found a home, starting in ten of his twenty-six games this season.
