This caught my eye:

“The midrange is officially extinct. Look at this Bulls shot chart from Dec 21, 2025. They took 0 midrange jumpers the entire game. there is absolutely nothing between the paint and the three-point line. This wasn’t random variance. It was a deliberate offensive choice.”

I don’t know about you, but the first thing I did was check the score and , yes, the Chicago Bulls won using this game plan. They beat the Atlanta Hawks 152-150. It wasn’t a huge margin, but they did score 152 points, which is high.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say even if it was the plan, it’s pretty amazing that there wasn’t an accidental midrange taken at the expiration of a 24-second clock or by a wide open shooter. The positioning and movement had to be such that it wasn’t even an option.

We’ve known for some time that the game has moved into three-point shooting contests. With the evolution of the shot and the alterations in calling fouls to protect the shooter, this almost seems inevitable to the point of wondering how we didn’t arrive here sooner.

There is obviously still room for a midrange, or will it phase itself out even more now that some teams are purposely eliminating it from their shot selection?
