Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was spotted in Las Vegas toting an en français copy of Brandon Sanderson’s 2008 fantasy novel, “The Hero of Ages,” as he arrived at the Emirates NBA Cup semifinal game at T-Mobile Arena.
“Hero of Ages” closes out Sanderson’s popular Mistborn trilogy, an “Ocean’s Eleven” heist story turned “Star Wars” rebellion saga about a crew of magical thieves who try to overthrow the evil Lord Ruler and his empire.
The final book in the trilogy focuses on thief-turned-rebel Vin and her nobleman husband, Elend, as they take on Ruin, a godlike being that wants to destroy the world.
As the Express-News reported during Wembanyama’s rookie year, the French phenom is a voracious reader and cites Sanderson as his favorite writer.
Wembanyama met his literary hero last year in Salt Lake City after a Spurs win over the Utah Jazz in late March.
Sanderson, who resides in American Fork, Utah, also is famous for finishing the late sci-fi luminary Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series, “The Wheel of Time.”
