Richmond Randle’s Landen Williams-Callis (1) looks to get past Boerne’s Kole Traylor (0) during the second half of their Class 5A Division II state semifinal final high school football game at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Friday, Dec. 12, 2025. Williams-Callis ran for 203 yards and five touchdowns to help Richmond Randle beat Boerne 40-16.
For the second year in a row, Richmond Randle ended Boerne’s season in the Class 5A Division II state semifinals. This time it did it with a 40-16 win Friday in the Alamodome.
The Lions (15-0) broke open a close game in the first half by rolling off 31 consecutive points to pull away from the Greyhounds as the defending state champions advanced to the state title game to play Dallas South Oak Cliff next Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Lions beat the Golden Bears in the championship game last season.
Boerne (13-2) ended its season Friday playing in its third state semifinal game in four years. The Greyhounds lost to Randle 42-7 in last year’s state semifinals.
“I thought we played hard,” Boerne coach Brett Sawyer said. “We put ourselves into some good positions, we just didn’t execute on them.”
The good opportunities included the three times Boerne drove inside the Randle 5-yard line but came away with no points.
Besides their inability to score points when they needed to, the Greyhounds had more than they could handle with the task of stopping Randle junior running back Landen Williams-Callis, who scorched the Greyhounds for 203 yards rushing and five touchdowns. With his performance, Williams-Callis broke the 3,000-yard rushing mark for the season. In addition, Lions quarterback Tyler Skrabanek threw for 221 yards as Randle outgained Boerne 494-280.

Boerne’s Ben Bays (8) celebrates with the ball after a blocked punt by Hadden Silva lead to a safety during the first half of their Class 5A Division II state semifinal final high school football game with Richmond Randle at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Friday, Dec. 12, 2025. Richmond Randle beat Boerne 40-16.
Randle took the opening possession and drove to the Boerne 14-yard line before the Greyhounds defense stiffened and forced the Lions to settle for a 39-yard field goal from Raul Vega.
Boerne came back and drove near the Randle goal line, but a personal foul penalty pushed the Greyhounds back to the Randle 17-yard line on fourth down. Boerne wasted the drive away when Diego Jimenez missed on a 35-yard field goal attempt.
Williams-Callis put Randle up 9-0 on a 30-yard touchdown run on a sweep to the right side, with 1:57 left in the first quarter.
Boerne got a break late in the first quarter when Ben Bays sacked Skrabanek, forcing the Lions quarterback to fumble the ball, which Boerne’s Cash Gatlin pounced on for the turnover. The play led to the Greyhounds’ first score, a 19-yard scoring pass from Grant Sweeney to Zach Freasier, who made a one-handed grab on the run for the touchdown.
“We work on the one-handed catch drill with a defender on them,” said Sawyer about Freasier’s touchdown catch. “He’s (Freasier) a hell of a player. You give people an opportunity and great players make great plays, and he made a great play. He’s incredible, he’s only going to get better.”
A special teams play enabled Boerne to tie the game in the second quarter, as linebacker Hadden Silva blocked a Randle punt at the Lions’ 19, forcing the ball to roll through the end zone for a safety, tying the score at 9-9.
That was the tightest the game got as Randle scored on five consecutive possessions from the second to the fourth quarter to take a 40-9 lead before Boerne scored with 1:53 left in the game on Sweeney’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Eli Nikolas.
Sweeney finished the game with 258 yards passing and two scores.
Sawyer, who completed his first season as Boerne’s head coach, said his team accomplished many things this season, which included winning 13 straight games, claiming the district title and advancing to the state semifinals for the second year in a row.
“We had 23 seniors total, which is one of the smallest senior classes we’ve ever had,” Sawyer said. “They led this group all the way through when people didn’t think we could do it. This is a testament to them and their four years here. It’s going to be fun to watch in the future what these guys have put forth.”
