MINNEAPOLIS – Anthony Edwards wiggled into the paint late in the fourth quarter Sunday, finished a layup and drew a foul on the Spurs’ Luke Kornet, then did the only thing that seemed obvious from there.

He high-fived fans in the front row.

Edwards finished with 32 points as his Minnesota Timberwolves pummeled the Spurs in the fourth quarter to secure a 125-112 victory at the Target Center.

It marked the fifth consecutive 30-point game for Edwards, the longest streak of the All-Star guard’s career.

Julius Randle added 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who won for the second night in a row after beating Boston at the Target Center on Saturday.

De’Aaron Fox had 25 points for the Spurs, while Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell chipped in 22 apiece. The Spurs led 93-89 heading into the fourth quarter, and seemed on the verge of stealing another road win with injured starters Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle back in San Antonio.

Instead, the wheels came off in the fourth quarter for the Spurs. Or, more accurately, the Wolves shot the wheels off.

Minnesota made seven 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, one fewer than the Spurs made the entire game.

That allowed the Timberwolves to open up a lead that got as high as 16 points, which the Spurs could not challenge.

Here are three takeaways from Sunday’s defeat, which sent the Spurs (13-6) home from a four-game road trip with an even split:

1. Wolves find their distance, Spurs do not

For three quarters Sunday, the Spurs were able to control the game somewhat without doing much from 3-point range.

That disparity from distance came to bear in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota made five 3-pointers in first 5 ½ minutes of the frame, two by Naz Reid, two by Donte DiVincenzo and one by Mike Conley, to shoot their way into the lead.

The Spurs, meanwhile, continued to clang away from 3-point land as the Wolves, who had trailed by four heading into the quarter, went ahead by as many as 14 points.

For the game, the Spurs were 8-of-33 from the 3-point stripe. The Timberwolves were 17 of 37.

Minnesota outscored the Spurs by 18 points from 3-point range in the fourth quarter alone, a big reason they were able to pull away.

2. Dylan Harper? Yeah, he’s back

The Spurs rookie guard dazzled in his third game back from a calf strain, turning in his best scoring outing of the month with 17 points.

Harper’s array of downhill drives and nifty finishes helped keep the Spurs in the game for a while.

Three of Harper’s first four baskets came via crafty finishes around Rudy Gobert, the Wolves’ 7-foot-1, four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner.

Harper seems to have his aggressiveness, explosion and acceleration back. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson quibbled with Harper’s box score after the game, saying he believes the rookie should have had more than zero assists and zero rebounds.

Harper’s ascension was briefly stalled by a 10-game hiatus due to injury. Now healthy and back on the floor, Harper’s rookie rise is free to resume.

3. Spurs’ road goes on forever

The Spurs flew home to San Antonio after Sunday’s game, completing a four-game trip that had them away from home for eight days.

Their time in the Alamo City will be short-lived.

After arriving in the wee hours of Monday morning, the Spurs are afforded one home game Tuesday against Memphis before hitting the road again for at least four games.

That trip begins with a back-to-back Wednesday in Orlando, then moves on to Cleveland and New Orleans. From there, the Spurs head directly to Los Angeles to face the Lakers in the NBA Cup quarterfinals.

If the Spurs win that game, it is on to Las Vegas for the NBA Cup final four.

If they make it to the Cup finals, the Spurs will reach mid-December having been at home for 36 hours in 3 ½ weeks.

Rodeo trip, eat your heart out.
