Gregg Popovich’s sidekick at last week’s Trinity University conference for future healthcare leaders gave the marquee attraction high marks for his presentation to the students.
“Pop was absolutely tremendous,” Sean Elliott said.
The former Spurs star was on the stage Thursday night with his former coach, who retired from coaching in May after suffering a stroke last November.
Popovich headlined the event, which Trinity billed as a “conversation on leadership, teamwork and culture” for Healthcare Administration students and Methodist Healthcare residents.
“It was fun to sit down with him and see him interact with all the young people,” Elliott said. "He told a lot of stories and talked about a lot of things that were behind the scenes, some things I knew about and some things I didn’t.
“So, it was just as interesting for me as it was for a lot of the people there.”
Elliott said Popovich also “passed along a ton of great advice to all the young people.”
“He handled it well,” Elliott added.
Elliott said it was “fun to see” Popovich’s trademark wit remains sharp.
“He had a lot of energy,” Elliott said.
Popovich, 76, is the NBA’s all-time winningest coach. He continues to serve as the Spurs president of basketball operations.
