Henry thought he getting a simple tour of The Rock at La Cantera, the practice facility of the San Antonio Spurs. Instead, he walked into the biggest surprise of his life — one orchestrated by the Spurs and his hero, Tim Duncan.
The young Spurs fan turned the corner was greeted by the five-time NBA champion. From there, he got a tour of the practice facility, smiling ear-to-ear while soaking it all in. He got to shoot baskets on the Spurs practice court, sit at his host’s table in the training area, and even check out the pool.
“Does this have the jets where to get to keep on swimming?”, he asked.
“Yup, exactly,” a Spurs official replied.
From there, Henry hopped into a limbo en route to the Frost Bank Center, where he had courtside seats for the Spurs’ matchup with the Miami Heat. He got the opprotunity to pass the ball to players as they warmed up and to be on the jumbotron in front of the soldout crowd.
The coolest part for Henry was getting his jersey autographed by Keldon Johnson, De’Aaron Fox, and Jeremy Sochan. Posing for pictures with The Coyote and members of the Hype Squad capped off what was a pretty cool day for a pretty cool kid.
A wish granted. A memory forever.
