I understand the criticism of Castle at the Point. He has tunnel-vision when dribbling the ball. Most players do. But not Point Guards. I think Castle looks like an effective 2.

But I read the comments and think that many here are taking ferocious defense for granted. When it happens every night, you start to expect it. He is a force on that end of the floor.

I agree. I’m happy with Castle in every way except as the primary ball handler. Once Fox is back, he moves to the 2 and then when he plays with Harper, we’ll see, but I’m thinking the same thing. Harper is so good. He started by delivering assist after assist, and like the last game, when no one was putting the ball in the basket he took the team on his shoulders and went for it alone.

This boy is a Super Star in the making. I hate to get excited on a young prospect after only few games but here it’s obvious. For me, it was from the preseason, the eye-test was passed effortlessly, but now there is no doubt allowed.

The only problem this season will be the case of Harrison Barnes. Those profiles never age well. Too old and slow to play the 3, to undersized to play the 4. He is not a good rebounder, not capable to defend well enough to be efficient, and offensively we don’t really need him with the crazy arsenal we have. I don’t know what we are going to do with him, but i really hope Jeremy and Olynyk will be back soon.

When Kornet is not here, we look like a normal team. Hope he is fine.

Chiming in here about Dylan, I get the James Harden comparison, but I don’t think it’s an entirely accurate one. It’s not a bad comp by any means, but when you look at them closely, they’re different kinds of technicians. I want to talk about that OKC squad because, honestly, this Spurs team is the closest thing we’ve seen to that Durant–Harden–Westbrook trio. (In my opinion, this Spurs roster is going to be even better — but it definitely makes for a solid “what if?” scenario for Thunder fans.)

Let’s get back to Dylan in a bit, but first-

Victor Wembanyama, as everyone knows, was perceived as a guaranteed jubilee prospect. (I don’t use the term “generational,” because Wemby’s talents are things we haven’t seen for generations, subtle difference, but that’s how I see it.) His offensive ceiling is very similar to Kevin Durant’s. In fact, you could call him a supercharged Kevin Durant with a hint of offensive Hakeem Olajuwon — and a touch of defensive Hakeem too, all wrapped up in the rim-protecting instincts of Mutombo.

Then there’s Stephon Castle, essentially a bigger version of Russell Westbrook. A superbly athletic guard who’s relentless, fiery, and carries that “it” factor. He wants to demolish you, hunt for the big play, and create his own opportunities rather than wait for them. Castle might never reach MVP-level Westbrook numbers because of how deep this roster is, but make no mistake, he’s capable of dominating inside the paint on both ends. He’s an all-around player who thrives on physicality and athleticism. He’ll rack up turnovers at times, but he’ll also leave you in awe.

Now, back to Dylan Harper — the James Harden comparison has been floating around, right? The parallels to that OKC trio make sense on paper. But here’s where I differ: James Harden was a footwork maestro, a footwork technician. His feet made him a Hall of Famer. Dylan Harper, though, reminds me more of Baron Davis — both are armwork technicians. Watch the film. Look at their upper-body movement, the way they control defenders with their shoulders and arms, it’s different.

Harper is also bigger than Baron Davis, which makes his potential even crazier. He’s already a complete player. His armwork allows him to slide between guard and forward effortlessly. It’s not just that I think Harper was better than Cooper Flagg as a prospect. it’s that Harper is in a much better fit. He’s more adaptable to this roster. He’s already an elite post player, even compared to Flagg, and his finishing at the rim in college was stronger too.

Now imagine if that OKC team had Tony Parker! De’Aaron Fox is the modern equivalent of Parker to me. That comparison alone makes this “what if?” scenario wild, and fortunately for us, we’re living it as Spurs fans.

With Fox and Sochan returning, there will be some challenges, but they’re needed challenges, the kind that push a young team to grow. Now it’s time to just watch, enjoy, and trust what we’re building.

Nice analogy to Baron Davis. I have to say Harper reminds me also of Deron Williams. Either way, he’s a natural pg and has a level of control over the offense that is already head and shoulders above Castle or Fox. However, both Castle and Fox can bust open the paint in ways that Harper can’t. I see all three players as complementary, uniquely different.

Dylan was incredible today. It’s hard to believe he’s still a teenager. He helped his hold off Brooklyn big time. He was +33 which is insane for one game.

Keldon brought the energy when we needed it. He had 19 points and 7 rebounds. He’s such a perfect Spur. I hope we never trade Keldon. He’d be so hard to replace.
