Victor Wembanyama opened his season with a 40-point, 15-rebound, three-block opus made even more impressive by the fact that it came in just under 30 minutes of court time.
The Spurs aim for Wembanyama’s workload to increase somewhat from the 33 minutes he averaged last season.
That plan was stymied Wednesday by a seven-minute stretch of the third quarter in which Wembanyama sat with four fouls, plus the eight minutes he sat of the fourth quarter with the game out of reach.
There are no limits on Wembanyama’s playing time coming back from his blood clot issue, Johnson said, save for common sense.
“Victor has shown because of the level of effort he gives on both sides of the court, he will need a rest,” Johnson said. “But we will let him go.”
