San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama (1) shares a laugh with San Antonio Spurs Jeremy Sochan (10) in a Spurs preseason opener vs. Guangzhou Loong-Lions on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025 at Frost Bank Center.

Stephon Castle’s impending debut Monday against Indiana marked the latest in a trickle of healthy bodies slowly returning to the Spurs’ active lineup.

It comes one game after rookie guard Dylan Harper made his preseason debut following thumb surgery in September.

The rest of the Spurs’ injured list remained intact against the Pacers, with De’Aaron Fox (hamstring), Jeremy Sochan (calf), Kelly Olynyk (heel surgery) and Jordan McLaughlin (hamstring) ruled out.

The team is hopeful McLaughlin might be ready by Friday’s preseason finale at home against the Pacers. There is optimism Sochan and Olynyk might be cleared by the regular-season opener Oct. 22 at Dallas, with Fox’s projected return soon to follow.

Olynyk and Sochan ended Monday’s shootaround at Gainbridge FieldHouse by going through a set of offensive and defensive drills with members of the Spurs’ coaching staff.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said the club will err on the side of caution when it comes to bringing back ailing players.

“Everybody that’s not playing, we’d rather be a little long than short, a little late than early,” he said.
