Victor Wembanyama announced Saturday he is hiking his commitment to the club’s new “supporters’ section.”
There is a $999 membership cost to be in the club and it comes with some privileges such as discounts and the chance to meet surprise special guests.
This weekend, Wembanayama said he will personally cover the cost for the fans judged to be the five craziest.
Tryouts are set for Sunday at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Halls next to the Frost Bank Center. Registration runs from 7-9 a.m.
Wembanyama came up with the plan for the group, which is modeled after what he has seen from international soccer and basketball teams.
The rowdy section of fans will feature “nonstop chants, drums, flags, and passion,” the Spurs said last week. Wembanyama and the Spurs hope to find high-energy fans committed to attending at least 75% of the team’s home games this season and are willing to “participate in chants and rituals”.
