The life of an NBA referee

Have you ever wondered what the life of an NBA referee looks like?

If you are like me, I tend to notice them most when they make a terrible call against my San Antonio Spurs (talkin’ ‘bout you Joey Crawford).

But seriously, you think about the players running back and forth for forty-eight minutes. In actuality, they get subbed out throughout the night. Meanwhile, the three member officiating team run the entire game.

If you’re curious of how referees prepare for the night’s events, the NBA posted a video on social media.

I found it interesting that they use halftime to review the first half. Their acknowledgement toward accountability is impressive.

And on average, the officiating crew runs four to five miles a night. Crazy.

Considering the microscope from under which they operate…not to mention those bellyaching head coaches. It can look like a thankless job at times.

Essential, but thankless.
