Spurs to open NBA Cup group play at home against Houston Rockets
The Spurs will spend Thanksgiving on a West Coast trip that’s part of the NBA Cup, the league announced Wednesday.
The league unveiled group play schedules for the third year of the tournament, which tips off Oct. 31 and continues through Nov. 28. In group play, all teams have two road and two home games.
Playing in the Western Conference’s Group C, the Spurs will kick off their tournament schedule against Houston at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Frost Bank Center in a game set to be televised nationally by Prime. Their second home game will be against Golden State at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 14.
The Spurs’ road games will be against Portland at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 on the day before Thanksgiving and at Denver at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 28.
Quarterfinals will be Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 in team markets, with the tournament semifinals set for Dec. 13 in Las Vegas. The championship game — which will not count toward the season record and statistics for either of the clubs involved — is Dec. 16 in Las Vegas.
Teams that do not reach the quarterfinals or semifinals will have added to their schedules matchups against two other teams that also did not qualify for the Cup playoffs, pushing the season to the full 82 games.
