Report: Spurs re-sign Riley Minix to two-way deal

The San Antonio Spurs continue to eek towards a finished product as the offseason slowly drags on. Two days after signing De’Aaron Fox to a max contract extension, they have filled in the second of their three two-way spots by re-signing sharp-shooting forward and restricted free agent Riley Minex, per ESPN’s Shams Sharania.

Free agent forward Riley Minix is re-signing with the San Antonio Spurs on a two-way NBA deal, sources tell ESPN. Minix spent his rookie season last year with San Antonio’s G League team and played one game for the Spurs.

Undrafted out of Morehead State in 2024, Minix played for the Spurs in Summer League last year before signing an Exhibition 10 contract. He impressed enough in training camp and the preseason to earn the final two-way spot alongside David Duke Jr. and Harrison Ingram. With last year’s Spurs being so deep, Minix only appeared in one game and played seven total minutes with San Antonio, with his only recordable stat being a three-point attempt.

He also appeared in 19 games for the Austin Spurs – 16 in the G League Showcase Cup and three in the regular season – where he averaged 19.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 42% from the three before suffering a torn labrum in his left shoulder and undergoing surgery in January, ending his rookie season there. He then returned to play in five games for the Summer Spurs in Las Vegas this year, where he averaged 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 48.6 percent from the field, including hitting the game-winner in a thrilling OT victory over the Jazz.

Minix joins Summer League breakout star David Jones-Garcia as the Spurs’ second two-way player. The Spurs still have one two-way spot and one spot left on the main roster to fill. They also still have Ingram’s qualifying offer, so he could be the third two-way player again, or perhaps they will keep it open and make it a competition in training camp. Another potential offseason move to keep an out for is Jeremy Sochan’s rookie contract extension, which they have until the day before the regular season begins to complete.

Welcome back to San Antonio, Riley!
