Spurs re-sign Riley Minix, Harrison Ingram to two-way contracts
San Antonio Spurs forward Riley Minix (27) and forward Harrison Ingram (55) play in the second half of the preseason NBA match-up against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Frost Bank Center on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. The Spurs re-signed both Minix and Ingram to two-way contracts, the team announced Wednesday.
The Spurs are bringing back a pair of familiar faces to round out their allotment of two-way players.
Second-year forwards Riley Minix and Harrison Ingram have agreed to return on two-way deals, the club announced Wednesday.
Minix, 24, was on a two-way deal as an undrafted rookie last season when he suffered a season-ending injury during a G League game with the Austin Spurs on Jan. 1.
After rehabbing from surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder, the native of Vero Beach, Fla., showed off his 3-point shooting and rebounding during an abbreviated Summer League run last month, highlighted by a buzzer-beating jumper that gave the Spurs a 93-91 win over Utah in overtime.
The 6-foot-7 former Morehead State standout is known for his sharpshooting, but he said he was determined to show in Summer League “a little bit of everything I can do.”
Spurs assistant coach Mike Noyes, who coached the Summer League team, said Minix accomplished that goal.
“Riley is a good basketball player,” Noyes said. “We’ve known it for a while now. It’s been a little hidden because of the shoulder injury. I actually thought he might’ve been our best on-ball defender tonight.”
The 22-year-old Ingram, a former second-round pick who played collegiately at North Carolina and Stanford, appeared in five games with the Spurs last season, as well as 48 in Austin. A 6-foot-5 combo forward, Ingram averaged 12.3 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists in the G League.
Like Minix, Ingram was also a fixture on the Spurs’ Summer League squad.
“He knows what he has to do to impact NBA winning,” Noyes said.
Players signed to two-way contracts split their time between the NBA and the G League.
Wednesday’s signings bring the number of Spurs two-way players to three, the maximum allowed. Earlier this summer, the Spurs inked guard David Jones-Garcia to a two-way deal.
As such, the offseason work is nearly finished for the Spurs’ front office.
The club has 14 players under standard NBA contracts, and can add only one more before the start of the regular season.
