The Spurs kick things off with a visitor from abroad in the Guangzhou Loong Lions.
While there’s 2 months plus a week to go until we get some Spurs basketball again, at least we now know exactly when it will be. The Spurs have released their preseason schedule, beginning at home on October 6 with the Guangzhou Loong Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association. They will also play at home against the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers, as well has at Miami and Indiana.
Here is the Spurs 2025 preseason schedule:

The most interesting match-up is probably against the Lions, if only because it brings some new (if likely outmatched) competition. This will be their fourth game against an NBA team, with the other three coming in the 2016-2018 preseasons. Their current roster features two Americans: Tyshaun Crawford and former NBA player Jamaal Franklin, who last played for the Denver Nuggets during the 2014-15 season.
Otherwise, unlike previous years where the Spurs were facing rivals like the Rockets and Thunder right off the bat, the NBA matchups don’t generate much excitement. While the Pacers are the defending Eastern Conference champions, they won’t be the same team with Tyrese Haliburton likely out for the season and Myles Turner signing with Milwaukee. Also, the Jazz are looking like the cellar dwellers of the West (although we could get the Dylan Harper-Ace Bailey reunion that didn’t happen in Summer League), and the Heat have become your average, middle-of-the-road team that isn’t bad but lacks upside.
While not much should be taken from the preseason in the grand scheme of things since the main rotation and veterans often don’t play too much, it represents a good chance to see new Spurs for the first time on their home court. That will include intriguing draft picks in Harper and Carter Bryant, as well as free agents Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, Lindy Waters III, and Summer League star David Jones-Garcia. Hopefully, we also get to see two Spurs stars whose seasons were cut short in Victor Wembaynama and De’Aaron Fox.
