Backup point guard Jordan McLaughlin is heading back to the Spurs.
The 29-year-old has agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal to provide some veteran depth behind a young but crowded point guard rotation.
McLaughlin arrived from Sacramento in February as part of the deal that also brought All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox from the Kings. He appeared in 18 games with the Spurs, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 assists.
McLaughlin is expected to back up a guard group that includes Fox, reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, the No. 2 pick in last month’s draft.
Depth behind those three took on an added premium after the Spurs agreed to trade a pair of reserve guards, Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley, to Washington in exchange for journeyman center Kelly Olynyk.
McLaughlin’s return gives the Spurs 13 players on standard NBA contracts, with a maximum of two spots remaining to fill.
