Spurs pull off first trade of the night in 2025 NBA draft

The Spurs made the first trade of draft night.
San Antonio traded the No. 38 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to Indiana on Thursday — less than an hour before the draft was set to begin — for a future second-round pick and cash, a league source confirmed.
The Spurs selected Harrison Ingram, a forward from North Carolina, with the 48th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.
Ingram spent most of last season playing for the Spurs’ G League affiliate in Austin. The Spurs are expected to select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick. They also own the 14th overall choice.

The Spurs now have no second round picks in the 2025 draft.
The first trade of draft day involved the Spurs, but it wasn’t a blockbuster. San Antonio is sending the 38th pick in the draft to the Pacers for Sacramento’s 2030 second-rounder and cash considerations, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
It’s not surprising to see the Spurs move their early second-rounder, as they have two lottery picks in the first round. Rostering three rookies always seemed unlikely. The timing of the trade is a little curious, as Brian Wright pulled the trigger before the draft even started, and with no way to find out who would be available at 38th tomorrow, when the second round begins. In all likelihood, the front office felt it was unlikely anyone they would be interested in would fall that low, and landing what could potentially be a high future second-rounder and cash was worth the risk of someone they were interested in sliding.
Now, San Antonio controls both the 2030 and 2031 Sacramento’s second-rounders and has the rights to swap first-rounders in 2031. It’s safe to say that they are betting against the beleaguered Kings being good in the upcoming years.
The Spurs still own the second overall pick and the 14th overall pick in the 2025 draft.
